Seriously like. I look at the clock at one stage, it was 4pm. I look again, it’s closing in on midnight. Now it’s 3:56am, I’m meant to be doing an assignment, but instead, I’m watching Fear and Loathing In Los Vegas. An amazing movie based on an amazing book. Anyway, I’m getting far off the point!
Not too much to report about today. Woke up and I actually had breakfast! Somewhat proud of me for that. I had two nice bagels with the vegan nutella, t’was ultra lovely. Spent the rest of the day working on that blasted assignment I mentioned in the previous post. Grrr, why won’t it just do itself? Be useful! Like plants!
Later on in the day, I thought I’d continue the trend of delicious food, so I popped back into the kitchen and prepared yet another epic meal! The result:
Pasta, vegan mince, broccoli (MORE BROCCOLI!), a bagel (I don’t really know why. It’s a weird thing I do when I cook pasta.), and more of that vegan cheese sauce, this time I made it thicker! Oh, almost forgot to mention! While cooking the vegan mince, I thought I’d throw sesame seeds into the mince on the pan. The mince was almost done, so it would give the seeds a nice amount of time to become lightly toasted.
I gotta say, it was really nice! The sesame seeds added a nice crunch to the mince, but at the same time… I don’t know. I really liked it, but at the same time I think I preferred it without the sesame seeds. I’ll try it again tomorrow without the seeds, maybe.
That was a few hours ago, still pretty stuffed!
All in all, it’s day nine, energy levels are still about the same (I didn’t sleep much last night, that might have been a factor). It’s around the time I’m getting a bit concerned. Why? Because last time I went vegan, anemia really took hold of me around day eleven. I know it’s still two days away, but I think I’d start to feel the effects a day or so before it really took hold (Now that I’m familiar with the feeling). Also, I’m starting to feel really fat and bloated the last day or two. I’m going to assume it’s due to my body adjusting from a mostly “Eat ALL THE ANIMALS!”(But not really) type diet, to my new, “OH MY GOD, I LOVE THIS STUFF” diet. So in the meantime, I’m gonna go drink some lovely herbal tea and go to sleep.
Once again, if you’ve any tips or questions, pop them over to me!
Until tomorrow.
Sorry for the late post, assignments have been a real bother.
So anyway, I’m past the week marker and into day eight! Not so baaaaaad. I’ve no real complaints so far. Although, I had to meet a friend of mine in town, and the constant smell from places serving food was getting to me a bit. I guess that’s what happens when you wake up late and don’t eat breakfast… SOOOOO to counter the lack of breakfast I decided to have something filling. I remembered finding out last year that Shake Away also had a Vegan option. So I thought, as I’m in town and hungry, I may as well! I had to ask first what they used. The really nice lady brought out the vegan ice cream they use and let me try some, it was delicious! So I went ahead and got myself a lovely strawberry and vanilla milkshake. T’was a nice reminder to me that just because I’m a vegan, doesn’t mean that there isn’t alternatives for some of my favorite foods.
You’re probably wondering about the deliciousness part of the title, yeah, I would be too. Don’t worry, I didn’t break veganism, I embraced it. With one of the most delicious meals I’ve made in a long time. As I was desperate to procrastinate as much as possible, I decided that a simple plate of pasta wouldn’t suffice. Especially considering all the food I bought the day before!
My Kitchen Crusade began. And there was one hell of a result.
Pasta, soya mince, broccoli, corn, tortilla wraps, and vegan cheese sauce. It was utterly NOM. And 100% vegan!
The thing I enjoyed the most was the soya mince. Like, I’ve had the stuff you’d get from Holland and Barrett before, and that was pretty nasty on it’s own. Hell, all you do to cook that is add hot water and wait a few minutes… This Tesco brand vegetarian mince, however, was really nice! It’s also weird that the Tesco version is vegan friendly, yet the Quorn brand isn’t. Not complaining as such, it’s cheaper!
That meal of epicness filled me up for the rest of the day. It also made me really like veganism a whole lot more. It helped to reinforce that things can still be delicious as a vegan. Plus, it’s helping me eat healthier! Although my portion size probably isn’t too healthy… My excuse is that I’m American and I eat a lot. <_<
Later on in the day I wanted a snack, so I decided to crack open that vegan Nutella stuff. And wow. It’s soooo nice. Especially if you like orange chocolate. It legit tasted like the proper stuff. I gave some to my housemate (who isn’t a vegetarian/vegan) and she loved it! Had it on some rolled up tortilla wraps and nommed away.
Don’t really think there’s much more today. I’ve a development essay calling my name, so I better get back to that.
Again, if anyone has any questions or tips, send them my way!
Until tomorrow.
Hello tumblr! I imagine if you follow us on here you already know about what an awful weekend we’ve had. Our van was taken outside one of our homes containing all of our equipment.. Naturally we are devastated. 5 years worth of collecting amps and instruments, Marcia’s dresses and shoes, the boy’s suits and of course the van itself has all been harshly taken away and we have nothing. It’ll take a long time to get back on our feet again but if there’s one thing that could make this better, it’s the overwhelming support that you have shown us. Your generosity has given us a little faith that for every scumbag there are 15,000 other people who are kind, generous and thoughful. To top it all off, the Kingston kings Banquet Records got in touch with us as soon as they heard. They have set us up a donation page and arranged a fundraiser which we will be playing on the 20th May. Click the title for details and watch this space. With or without our instruments we are still THE SKINTS and we will not be beaten by this. All gigs are going on as scheduled, see you there, and remember to keep ordering from our Merch Store!

One Love
THE SKINTS
The first thing I want to say about today is that the smells of burgers seemed to be haunting me. All. Day. Long. Seriously.
I had the joy of discovering a jar of vegetarian strawberry jam in my room this morning! I must have bought it ages ago, because I’ve no idea where it came out of! But, let me just say, it was definitely a step-up from the dry toast I’ve been eating while in Longford. :/
But anyway, had to work in Longford again today. Which was nice enough, considering I work right next to the Esquires, where I made sure I got all of my nom noms today. They’ve figured me out already: Vegetarian bliss (minus cheese) and a soya vanilla mint latte. ^_^ I’ve come to the conclusion that if I could have one of those paninis every day, I’d stay a vegan. For like… Ever. THEY’RE SO DAMN NICE. Gonna have to start making myself that back up in Dublin, because I’m craving one right now. Damn.
Nonetheless, the smell of burgers kept creeping around me today. T’was annoying. The worst part was I had no idea where the smell was coming from! No one where I worked was cooking burgers or was eating them, so it was as though it was lingering around me. It happened again when I got home, but that was my mother cooking burgers in front of me. BECAUSE SHE’S EVIL. Trying to make me stop veganism. She actually said to me that the only thing that’s stopping me eating a burger was myself. She even cooked one extra for me. It was pure evil. But I didn’t break veganism. I’m dedicated to it, and I’m sticking to it.
Not really much else to say today. Energy levels and the general riff-raff are all good. Oh! I’ve discovered a vegan alternative to Nutella! I’m heading back to Dublin tomorrow, so I’m going to try and track some of that down. Might go for Vegan pizza, don’t know yet. :)
Until tomorrow!
Also, if anyone has any sort of ideas for food, or recipes, questions or whatever, please throw an ask into my message box! ^_^
I’m a tad bit late on this one. Sorry about that, there’s just something about coming back to Longford/something about this county that makes me ridiculously sleepy the whole time. They must be trying to kill everyone off or something. But anyway, day five! I was stuck going working all day at a market thingy by myself, which wasn’t overly fun.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit concerned at first about getting lunch/breakfast (considering I decided to go with the “I’ll wait till town” card the night before when really hungry), as the main place for food around that area is McDonalds. And pretty much the only thing vegan there is the water. :/ However, I had completely forgot about Esquires (A coffee shop) serving food! And, as a coffee shop, I assumed that they would have soy milk, but as it was Longford I wasn’t too sure… Thankfully they did! :D So I was able to get my usual delicious latte, with no extra charge for Soy milk (Take that, Starbucks and your 60 cent extra…).
As for food, I had to take a good look at their menu before I came to any conclusion. But, in the end, I took a shot at the vegetarian bliss (minus the cheese). T’was just tomato, onion and lettuce with a small bit of sauce cooked for a few minutes. Now, I’m not a huge tomato person. Never really cared much for them, if I’m honest. But, nonetheless, I thought I’d take a swing at it.
Dear lord, it was amazing. Without question it was the nicest thing I’ve had so far! Hell, it was so nice, that I ended up going back there later in the day for another one! I’m working around there tomorrow (Day Six) as well, so I might do the same again. It was just that om nom nom’able!
(Vegan panini wth a lovely soy vanilla mint latte)
Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to get to tesco after work, so I settled for toast again. Really looking forward to going back to Dublin. At least then I don’t have to wait till someone’s going somewhere in a car to get some food.
As far as everything else: I’m rather exhausted (hence the delay in this post). But I tend not to sleep very much down in Longford. Even if I do, I’m exhausted. I really think there’s something in the air down here that’s trying to put me to sleep the whole time or something. I’d say I’ll have my nice energy levels back once I get up to Dublin again!
My cat’s here, and she wants to go on my computer (or sit on it…), so I’m going to call it a day.
Until tomorrow!
Day Four is here already. Well, it hasn’t exactly been long, I know. But nonetheless, it’s Friday, so it feels as though I’m later in my voyage! And, as it’s Friday, I was stuck going back to Longford to see my family and all that jazz. Now this I was worried about (In relation to my veganism, anyway), because I had a feeling they’d try and get me to take some non-vegan food, or pizza, or ham, or something along those lines!
I’ve been here a few hours now, and it’s not as bad as I imagined. Like, I opened the fridge and was confronted with loads of meat. Felt really odd not being able to eat any of it. Not in a bad way, in a… Sort of nice way! Although, there was a part of me that was tempted for a bagel with cheese… But I didn’t have one! Ended up having a very un-boring dish of pasta with pepper sauce. T’was nice, but, as I’m in town tomorrow, I wanna pick up some more supplies so I’m not stuck eating the same things each day! I’ve my mind set on some broccoli with a nice home-made garlic sauce of some sort…
I’d like to also dedicate this part of my post to Adam “MCA” Yauch of the Beastie Boys who died of cancer today. He, as well as being a Vegan, was an absolute legend and hero to me. I’ve been a huge fan of the Beastie Boys from an extremely young age (Maybe 6?), and, no matter what, I always still loved their work. Hell, I remember a few years ago (About 5, maybe 6 at this stage) I went home with my family for my uncle’s wedding. We stopped at a Burger King somewhere along the way from New Jersey to where we used to live in New York. My little sister had managed to spill a giant thing of coke all over the place, and, the man sitting at a table nearby (MCA, as I realized after we left) came over with loads of napkins to help us. I have the highest amount of respect for them, and the death of one is an absolute shock to me. I still am hoping to hear a “False report, he’s still alive!” news article somewhere… A true hero of mine has died today. He was 47. May he Rest In Peace.
Anyway, energy levels are still the same. No real changed feelings yet. I might stop taking that rice milk, or at least stop taking it in my oatmeal. It kinda makes me feel a bit ill afterwards. :/
That’s it till tomorrow, stay classy, internet.
“Onward, unto the breach!”
No idea why I opened with that. T’was feeling a bit bored and tired. But oh well! So anyway, it’s day three of my Vegan adventure and all’s going pretty well. I spent most of the day working on assignments and the likes, as it’s that horrible time of the year once again: Exam season.
Today struck me with my first real challenges to Veganism. Earlier today, I had to go into Spar with a friend of mine while he bought me Monster (:D). And, of course, it was lunch time. So the entire place smelled of chicken rolls. As an ex-meat eater, there was a part of me that was all like “Mmmm, chicken…”, but it didn’t bother me too much. Got my Monster, chugged it, worked for an hour, relaxed a bit. Aaaaalllll gooooood.
Another challenge appeared later on in the day when my housemate was cooking bacon. Now that was a huge fear of mine during Veganism last year. Thankfully, it never happened! However, I was nicely surprised when it finally did. The smell of cooking bacon, despite my past love of the food, didn’t bother me at all. No temptation for bacon. I was quite proud. :)
Unfortunately, my plans to get to Tesco never happened. I’m absolutely broke. I’m owed money for working the Summer ball at college last week. And, as I didn’t get a chance to drop in my invoice the next day, I have to wait a little while. Two weeks, at that. The woman who does the monehz is on vacation, so baaaaaaw. :( So I was stuck with a repeat of pasta equipped with lovely vegetable stock cubes. I’m not complaining, it was rather nice! I topped it off with some pees, (For the iron, etc) Tesco value ones aren’t as bad as I expected!
Hours later, I’m after finishing a bowl of oatmeal filled with the rather nice rice milk enriched with calcium. I’m feeling a bit iffy after it, but that’s probably from the excessive amounts of coffee I’ve had today…
So anyway, I don’t really know what else to say today. The day’s over, I’m pretty exhausted, and onward to day four!
